Quick Answer

A lab grown diamond necklace is a necklace set with diamonds grown in a lab rather than mined. The diamonds are real, identical to mined ones, and graded the same way by IGI or GIA. The popular styles are a solitaire pendant (one diamond on a chain), a halo pendant (a centre diamond ringed by smaller stones), and a station or diamonds-by-the-yard necklace (small diamonds spaced along the chain). Because there's no mined-diamond markup, you can choose a larger centre stone for the same spend. At Lux Jewels we custom-design necklaces in repurposed gold and platinum across Canada and the USA, with no inflated markup.

Front and Centre

What style of diamond necklace should you choose?

The main styles are a solitaire pendant, a halo pendant, and a station necklace, and the right one depends on the look you want.

A solitaire pendant is one diamond on a fine chain, clean and timeless, and it lets the stone be the star. A halo pendant rings the centre diamond with smaller stones so it looks bigger and catches more light. A station necklace, sometimes called diamonds by the yard, spaces small diamonds along the chain for an all-over shimmer. We'll help you choose the style, stone size, and chain that suit you on a free call.

The Right Length

What chain length should a necklace be?

Pendant necklaces usually come in a few standard lengths. A 16 inch chain sits right at the base of the neck; 18 inches is the most popular, resting just below the collarbone; 20 to 22 inches sits lower on the chest and layers well. There's no single right length, it depends on your height, your neckline, and how you like to wear it.

Because we make your necklace to order, you're not stuck with a fixed length. We'll set the chain where it looks best on you, and many of our necklaces include an adjustable loop so you can shorten or lengthen the drop. We'll sort all of it out together on the call.

Bigger Stone, Same Budget

Why choose a lab grown diamond necklace?

On a pendant, the diamond is the whole point and most of the cost, so it's exactly where the mined-diamond markup stacks up, and exactly where lab grown saves the most.

With lab grown there's no mining premium, so you can choose a larger centre stone, a higher quality, or simply keep more in your pocket. Every diamond's real and certified by IGI or GIA, set in repurposed gold or platinum on a chain that suits you. You'll get the same bright sparkle resting at your neckline as the mined version, for far less.

Honest Advice

Are lab grown diamond necklaces a good buy?

For most people, yes. A pendant is almost all about the diamond, so the mined version is where you overpay the most. Lab grown diamonds are exactly as hard and bright, certified the same way, so you get an identical-looking necklace and either keep the difference or choose a larger stone. It makes a beautiful, meaningful gift without the mined price.

I'm Suman Smith, founder of Lux Jewels. I started this as Canada's first lab grown diamond company back in 2015. I don't upsell. What I do is help you choose the style, stone, and chain that suit you, built in repurposed gold or platinum. Every diamond comes certified, so you're never taking my word for it.

Straight Talk

How much does a lab grown diamond necklace cost?

It depends mostly on the diamond, the carat size and quality, plus the metal and chain. A small solitaire pendant costs the least; a larger centre stone, a halo, or a station necklace costs more. Lab grown keeps any of them far more affordable, because none of the diamonds carries a mined-diamond markup, so a bigger, brighter stone stays within reach.

I don't believe in vague "starting from" numbers, because the size and quality move the price so much. Book a free consultation and you'll get a straight, itemised quote for the exact necklace you want, with no pressure to spend a dollar more than makes sense for you.

Good Questions

Lab grown diamond necklace FAQs

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. A lab grown diamond is a real diamond with the same carbon structure, hardness, and sparkle as a mined one. The only difference is that it grew in a lab instead of underground. It's graded on the same 4Cs by the same labs, and you can't tell it apart from a mined diamond by eye.

Are lab grown diamond necklaces more affordable than mined?

Yes, usually by a wide margin. On a pendant the diamond is the main cost, so the mined-diamond markup adds up fast. With lab grown there's no mining premium, so the same stone costs a fraction of the mined price, which means you can choose a larger centre stone for the same budget.

What chain length should I choose?

A 16 inch chain sits at the base of the neck, 18 inches is the most popular and rests just below the collarbone, and 20 to 22 inches sits lower and layers well. Because we make your necklace to order, we'll set the length where it looks best on you, often with an adjustable loop.

Are the diamonds certified?

Yes. Every diamond we set is graded and certified by IGI or GIA, the same independent labs that grade mined diamonds. You get the documentation with your necklace, so you're never taking our word for the quality.

Where can I buy a lab grown diamond necklace in Canada?

Lux Jewels custom-designs diamond necklaces in repurposed gold and platinum for clients across Canada and the USA, by appointment and virtual consultation. As Canada's first lab grown diamond jeweller since 2015, every diamond we set is certified by IGI or GIA.
