Quick Answer

A lab grown diamond wedding band is a wedding band set with diamonds grown in a lab rather than mined. The diamonds are real, chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds, and graded the same way by IGI or GIA. Because there's no mining and no mined-diamond markup, a lab grown band costs far less than the mined version while looking exactly the same. At Lux Jewels we custom-design lab grown diamond bands, pave, eternity, flush-set, or a single accent, in repurposed gold and platinum across Canada and the USA, with no inflated markup.

Real, Not Synthetic

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. A lab grown diamond is a real diamond, with the same carbon structure, hardness, and sparkle as a mined one.

The only difference is where it grew. A mined diamond formed underground over millions of years; a lab grown diamond forms in a few weeks in a machine that recreates the same heat and pressure. Both are pure crystallised carbon, both rate 10 on the Mohs scale, and both throw the same fire and brilliance. A jeweller can't tell them apart by eye, and neither can you. They're graded on the same 4Cs by the same labs, so a lab grown diamond in your band is a real diamond in every way that matters.

How They're Grown

How is a lab grown diamond made?

It starts with a tiny diamond seed. In a sealed chamber the seed is exposed to carbon-rich gas and intense heat and pressure, and the diamond grows layer by layer, atom by atom, exactly the way a mined diamond grows underground, just faster and above ground. There are two methods, CVD and HPHT, and both produce a real, gem-quality diamond.

Once it's grown, the rough diamond is cut and polished by the same hands and machines that finish mined diamonds, then sent to IGI or GIA for grading. What you set in your band is a fully formed, certified diamond, identical to its mined twin.

More Diamond, Same Budget

Why choose a lab grown diamond band?

A diamond band, especially a pave or eternity, uses a lot of small stones, so the diamonds are most of the cost. That's exactly where the mined-diamond markup stacks up, and exactly where lab grown saves the most.

With lab grown there's no mining premium, so a band full of sparkle costs far less than the mined version. That means you can choose a larger stone, a fuller eternity, or simply keep more in your pocket. Every diamond is real and certified by IGI or GIA, and the gold I set them in is repurposed gold, previously refined rather than freshly mined, so the whole band is kinder on the planet too.

Honest Advice

Are lab grown diamonds a good choice for a wedding band?

For most people, yes. A wedding band is worn every day, so the diamonds need to be hard-wearing, and lab grown diamonds are exactly as hard as mined ones. You get the same durability and the same sparkle, and because there's no mined markup you can put more diamond into the band for the same money. It's the choice I'd make myself.

I'm Suman Smith, founder of Lux Jewels. I started this as Canada's first lab grown diamond company back in 2015. I don't upsell. What I do is help you choose the right lab grown band for your hand and your ring, built in repurposed gold or platinum. Every stone comes certified, so you're never taking my word for it.

Straight Talk

How much does a lab grown diamond band cost?

It depends mostly on the diamonds, how many, how big, and what quality. A single accent costs the least; a pave or half-eternity adds a row of small stones; a full eternity uses the most. Lab grown keeps any of them far more affordable, because none of the diamonds carries a mined-diamond markup. The metal you pick, gold or platinum, moves the price too.

I don't believe in vague "starting from" numbers, because the stone count and quality all move the price. Book a free consultation and you'll get a straight, itemised quote for the exact band you want, with no pressure to spend a dollar more than makes sense for you.

Lab grown diamond band FAQs

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. A lab grown diamond is a real diamond with the same carbon structure, hardness, and sparkle as a mined one. The only difference is that it grew in a lab instead of underground. It's graded on the same 4Cs by the same labs, and a jeweller can't tell it apart from a mined diamond by eye.

Are lab grown diamond wedding bands more affordable than mined?

Yes, usually by a wide margin. There's no mining and no mined-diamond markup, so a band full of lab grown diamonds costs far less than the mined version while looking exactly the same. The savings are biggest on pave and eternity bands, which use the most stones.

Do lab grown diamonds hold up in an everyday wedding band?

They do. Lab grown diamonds rate 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, the same as mined diamonds, so they handle daily wear just as well. For a ring you'll wear every day, that durability is exactly what you want.

Are your lab grown diamonds certified?

Yes. Every diamond we set is graded and certified by IGI or GIA, the same independent labs that grade mined diamonds. You get the certificate with your band, so you're never taking our word for the quality.

Where can I buy a lab grown diamond wedding band in Canada?

Lux Jewels custom-designs lab grown diamond bands in repurposed gold and platinum for clients across Canada and the USA, by appointment and virtual consultation. As Canada's first lab grown diamond jeweller since 2015, every diamond we set is certified by IGI or GIA.
