The cushion cut is one of the oldest diamond shapes, going back centuries to the old mine cut, which is why it has such a romantic, vintage feel. Its rounded "pillow" corners and brilliant faceting give it a soft, glowing sparkle that's a little warmer and chunkier than a round. It suits people who want something classic and full of character rather than sharp and modern. It also pairs perfectly with a halo, which is the most-requested cushion setting I make.

Yes, very. The rounded corners are the cushion's quiet strength: with no sharp points or edges, there's nothing to catch or chip the way a princess corner can. That makes it one of the most hard-wearing shapes you can choose for a ring you'll wear every day.
It's a shape I happily recommend to people who are active or hard on their hands but still want lots of sparkle and a soft, classic look. Good prongs still matter, but you're not designing around fragility the way you do with pointed shapes.

How does a cushion cut sparkle?
A cushion has large, open facets and brilliant faceting, which give it a warm, romantic fire, often with a slightly "crushed-ice" or chunky look depending on how it's cut. It doesn't have the crisp, sharp flashes of a round, but many people prefer its softer, glowing sparkle. It's a look that feels candlelit and a little old-world.

Yes, completely. A lab grown diamond is carbon crystallised the same way a mined diamond is, with the same hardness, the same brilliance, and the same chemical and optical properties. It is not cubic zirconia and it is not moissanite, which are different materials entirely. A cushion cut lab grown diamond is a genuine diamond, graded on the same 4Cs of cut, colour, clarity, and carat, and certified by IGI or GIA.

Near-colourless G to H and eye-clean VS usually look excellent without paying for top grades.
