An emerald cut lab grown diamond is a real diamond, certified on the same 4Cs, and it's a long rectangular step-cut with cut corners, so instead of fiery sparkle it gives you clean flashes of light and an elegant, understated look. Because the open table shows clarity, you want an eye-clean stone. At Lux Jewels we custom-design emerald cut rings across Canada and the USA, IGI or GIA certified, with no inflated mined-diamond markup, so your budget goes further on size, clarity, and the setting.

What is an emerald cut diamond?
A long rectangular diamond with cut corners and a step-cut facet pattern, the emerald cut trades fiery sparkle for clean, elegant flashes of light.
The emerald cut is named for the way emeralds have been cut for centuries. Instead of the many small facets that make a round or radiant sparkle, it has long, parallel step facets that create a "hall of mirrors" effect: broad flashes of light and dark rather than scattered fire. The look is understated, sophisticated, and strongly tied to Art Deco design. If you want something elegant and timeless rather than maximum sparkle, the emerald cut is the classic choice.

Why does clarity matter more for an emerald cut?
The emerald cut has a large, open table and those long step facets act like clear windows into the stone. That means any inclusion or cloudiness shows far more easily than in a brilliant cut, where scattered facets hide flaws. With an emerald cut, what's inside is on display.
So clarity is where I focus first on this shape. I aim for eye-clean, usually VS1 or VS2, sometimes VVS for larger stones, and I check each one in person rather than trusting a grade on paper. Get the clarity right and an emerald cut looks pure and glassy; skip it and you'll see the flaws. This is exactly the kind of thing a real person catches that an online cart never will.
Are emerald cut diamonds good value?
They can be excellent value. An emerald cut keeps a lot of the rough crystal, so it costs less per carat than a round, and its long shape spreads across the finger so it looks larger than its weight suggests. You're not paying for dozens of tiny facets, you're paying for a clean, elegant stone.
The trade-off is that you spend a little more on clarity to keep it eye-clean. Because lab grown carries no mined-diamond markup, that's easy to do without blowing the budget. I'll help you put the money where it shows on this shape: clarity and cut quality first.

What length-to-width ratio should you choose for an emerald cut?
The ratio sets how long and slim the emerald looks, and it's the biggest personality choice for the shape.
A balanced, elegant emerald. The flattering choice most people love.
A longer, slimmer stone that really lengthens the finger.
A squarer emerald, closer to an Asscher in feel.
Eye-clean is the priority on this open, revealing shape.
We'll show you a few ratios side by side on a free call so you can see the difference instead of guessing from a spec sheet.
Which settings work best with an emerald cut centre stone?

Emerald Halo
A ring of smaller diamonds frames the emerald and adds a little sparkle to the clean lines.

Three Stone
An emerald flanked by tapered baguettes, the most classic Art Deco pairing.

Pave Band
A solitaire emerald on a diamond band, clean and modern with extra brilliance.
We also design emerald solitaires and east-west emeralds. Every Lux Jewels ring is made for you.

Are emerald cut lab grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes, completely. A lab grown diamond is carbon crystallised the same way a mined diamond is, with the same hardness, the same brilliance, and the same chemical and optical properties. It is not cubic zirconia and it is not moissanite, which are different materials entirely. An emerald cut lab grown diamond is a genuine diamond, graded on the same 4Cs of cut, colour, clarity, and carat, and certified by IGI or GIA.
I'm Suman Smith, founder of Lux Jewels. I started this as Canada's first lab grown diamond company back in 2015 because I was tired of watching people get misled and overpay for the wrong stone. I don't push you toward a sale. What I do is hand-select every emerald cut, check it in person for the eye-clean clarity this shape demands, and set it so the light steps are crisp and there are no dull undertones. Every stone comes with its certificate, so you're never taking my word for it.
How do you pick the right emerald cut?
You start with clarity, because the open table shows everything, then cut quality, then colour and carat. For colour, near-colourless G to H looks clean and white; you can go a touch lower if the setting is yellow gold. The cut should have even, parallel steps and good symmetry, since flaws in the cut are obvious on this shape.
I don't believe in vague "starting from" numbers, because there are too many variables. Book a free consultation and you'll get a straight, itemised quote for the exact emerald cut and setting you want, with no pressure to spend a dollar more than makes sense for you.

Why do emerald cut diamonds show clarity more?
The emerald cut has a large, open table and long step facets that act like clear windows into the stone, so any inclusion shows more easily than in a brilliant cut. That's why eye-clean clarity, usually VS or better, matters most on this shape.
Do emerald cut diamonds sparkle?
Not in the fiery way a round or radiant does. An emerald gives broad flashes of light and dark, a "hall of mirrors" effect, rather than scattered fire. The look is elegant and understated, which is exactly why people choose it.
Are emerald cut diamonds good value?
Yes. An emerald keeps a lot of the rough crystal so it costs less per carat, and its long shape looks larger than its weight. You spend a little more on clarity to keep it eye-clean, and with lab grown there is no mined-diamond markup on top.
What length-to-width ratio is best for an emerald cut?
A ratio around 1.40 to 1.50 gives a classic, balanced emerald that flatters most hands. Go up toward 1.50 to 1.60 for a longer, slimmer look. We show you a few side by side before you choose.
