A marquise lab grown diamond is a real diamond, certified on the same 4Cs, and it has one of the largest face-up areas of any shape, so it looks bigger than a round of the same carat and lengthens the finger. At Lux Jewels we custom-design marquise rings across Canada and the USA, IGI or GIA certified, with no inflated mined-diamond markup, so your budget goes further on size, clarity, and the setting.

Designed around your marquise and hand.
What is a marquise cut diamond?
An elongated shape with two pointed ends and a curved middle, the marquise gives you the most finger coverage of any diamond and a look that stands apart.
The marquise, sometimes called a navette, was reportedly commissioned in the 1700s to resemble a particular smile, and it has stayed a symbol of bold, regal taste ever since. Because it's a brilliant-faceted cut like the round, it throws plenty of fire and light, but in a long, dramatic outline that flatters and lengthens the finger. Couples who choose it want something individual, elegant, and unmistakably different from the round and oval shapes most people default to.

Why does a marquise diamond look bigger than other shapes?
It comes down to surface area. A marquise carries its carat weight across a long, wide outline rather than down in the depth of the stone, so more of the diamond faces up at you. Carat for carat, a marquise has one of the largest face-up areas of any shape.
In practice, a one carat marquise can look noticeably larger than a one carat round from above, and it lengthens the finger at the same time. When the centre stone is lab grown, you can size up without the mined-diamond price jump, so the visible-size advantage stretches even further.
Does a marquise diamond have a bow-tie effect?
Yes, like other elongated brilliant cuts, a marquise can show a faint bow-tie shadow across the centre. It's a natural result of how light bounces inside a long stone. A slight bow tie is normal and most marquise stones have one. What you want to avoid is a heavy, dark bow tie that kills the sparkle in the middle of the stone.
This is exactly where buying blind online goes wrong. We hand-select each marquise and check the bow tie in person before it ever goes into your ring. If a stone has a distracting bow tie, we don't use it.

What length-to-width ratio should you choose for a marquise?
The length-to-width ratio is how long the marquise looks compared to how wide it is. It's the single biggest factor in the personality of the stone.
A balanced, elegant marquise. The flattering choice most people love.
A longer stone that really stretches the finger. A statement.
A rounder marquise that loses a little of the signature drama.
Very long and narrow. Striking, but needs careful selection.
We'll show you a few ratios side by side on a free call so you can see the difference instead of guessing from a spec sheet.
Which settings work best with a marquise centre stone?

Marquise Halo
A ring of smaller diamonds tracing the outline makes the marquise look even larger.

Hidden Halo
A clean marquise from above that catches light from the side. A modern favourite.

Three Stone
A marquise flanked by two tapered baguettes that echo the pointed tips.
We also design marquise solitaires with protected V-prong points and east-west marquise rings. Every Lux Jewels ring is made for you.

Are marquise lab grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes, completely. A lab grown diamond is carbon crystallised the same way a mined diamond is, with the same hardness, the same brilliance, and the same chemical and optical properties. It is not cubic zirconia and it is not moissanite, which are different materials entirely. A marquise lab grown diamond is a genuine diamond, graded on the same 4Cs of cut, colour, clarity, and carat, and certified by IGI or GIA.
I'm Suman Smith, founder of Lux Jewels. I started this as Canada's first lab grown diamond company back in 2015 because I was tired of watching people get misled and overpay for the wrong stone. I don't push you toward a sale. What I do is hand-select every marquise, check the points and the bow tie in person, and set it so the light reflection is right and there are no dull undertones. Every stone comes with its certificate, so you're never taking my word for it.
How do you protect the points of a marquise ring?
The two pointed tips are the most fragile part of a marquise, so the setting matters more here than with rounder shapes. The fix is simple: V-shaped prongs that wrap and cover each point, shielding them from knocks and chips. Done right, a marquise is perfectly wearable every day.
I design every marquise setting with protected points as standard, and we'll talk through how you use your hands so the build suits your life, not just a display photo. Book a free consultation and you'll get a straight, itemised quote for the exact marquise and setting you want, with no pressure to spend a dollar more than makes sense for you.

Do marquise diamonds look bigger than round diamonds?
Yes. A marquise spreads its carat weight across a long, wide outline, so more of the stone faces up. Carat for carat it has one of the largest face-up areas of any shape, so a one carat marquise can look noticeably larger than a one carat round and lengthens the finger too.
What does a marquise diamond symbolise?
The marquise, or navette, was reportedly commissioned in the 1700s to resemble a smile, and it has long been linked to bold, regal taste. Many couples choose it for its dramatic, individual look that stands apart from the more common round and oval shapes.
What is the best length-to-width ratio for a marquise?
A ratio of 1.85 to 2.00 gives a classic, balanced marquise that flatters most hands. For a longer, more dramatic look go up toward 2.00 to 2.15. We show you a few side by side before you choose.
Are marquise diamond points easy to chip?
The pointed tips are the most fragile part, but V-shaped prongs that wrap each point protect them well. We design every marquise setting with protected points as standard, so it's perfectly wearable every day.
