A pear shaped engagement ring blends the brilliance of a round with the elegance of a marquise into one elongated teardrop. When the centre stone is lab grown, it's a real diamond, certified on the same 4Cs, that looks larger than a round of the same carat and lengthens the finger beautifully. At Lux Jewels we custom-design pear rings across Canada, IGI or GIA certified, with no inflated mined-diamond markup, so your budget goes further on size, clarity, and the setting.

Why are pear shaped engagement rings having a moment in Canada?
The teardrop silhouette flatters the finger, sparkles like a round, and stands out from the crowd without trying too hard.
The pear, sometimes called the teardrop, has quietly become one of the most-requested shapes we set in Canada. It's the shape for someone who wants the fire and brilliance of a round brilliant but with a silhouette that's a little more distinctive. The single point and rounded end draw the eye down the finger, which makes the hand look longer and more elegant. You get a stone that reads bigger than a round of the same carat, a clearly personal look, and none of the round-diamond premium. Couples who choose pear usually tell us they wanted something classic but not identical to everyone else's ring.

Does a pear shaped diamond look bigger than a round?
A pear spreads its carat weight along a longer surface than a round brilliant, so more of the diamond faces up at you instead of hiding in the depth of the stone. In practice a one carat pear can look close to a 1.2 to 1.3 carat round from the top.
That visible size gain is one of the main reasons pear shoppers feel they got more ring for the money, and when the centre stone is lab grown, you can size up further without the mined-diamond price jump.

Which way should a pear shaped ring point?
There's a long-standing tradition that the point of a pear should face toward the wearer's heart, meaning it points up toward the fingernail when you look down at your hand. Almost everyone wears it this way, and it's how we set it unless you ask otherwise.
Pointing up also makes the finger look longer and keeps the delicate tip protected by the setting. It comes down to your preference, and we'll show you both on the call so you can decide what feels right.
What is the bow-tie effect in a pear diamond?
Like ovals and marquise cuts, every pear has a faint shadow across the centre shaped a bit like a bow tie, caused by how light travels through the elongated shape. A slight bow tie is normal. A heavy, dark one dulls the sparkle right where everyone looks.
This is exactly where buying blind online goes wrong. We hand-select each pear and check the bow tie in person before it goes into your ring, and if a stone has a distracting bow tie, we don't use it.

Which settings work best with a pear shaped diamond?

Pear Halo
A ring of smaller diamonds around the teardrop adds sparkle and makes the centre look even larger.

Pear Solitaire
Clean and classic, with a V-shaped prong protecting the delicate point. Lets the teardrop do all the talking.

Three Stone
A pear centre flanked by two side stones for a meaningful past, present, and future look.
We also design east-west pears and chevron bands shaped to the point. Every Lux Jewels ring is made for you.

Are pear shaped lab grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes, completely. A lab grown diamond is carbon crystallised the same way a mined diamond is, with the same hardness, brilliance, and chemical and optical properties. It is not cubic zirconia and it is not moissanite, which are different materials entirely. A pear shaped lab grown diamond is a genuine diamond, graded on the same 4Cs of cut, colour, clarity, and carat, and certified by IGI or GIA.
I'm Suman Smith, founder of Lux Jewels. I started this as Canada's first lab grown diamond company back in 2015 because I was tired of watching people get misled and overpay for the wrong stone. I don't push you toward a sale. What I do is hand-select every pear, check the bow tie and the point in person, and set it so the light reflection is right with no dull undertones. Every stone comes with its certificate, so you're never taking my word for it.
How much does a pear shaped engagement ring cost in Canada?
Choosing a lab grown pear means you're paying for the diamond, not a mined-diamond markup, so your budget goes further on size, clarity, and the setting. I sit in the mid-to-high range among Vancouver jewellers, and what you're paying for is promise integrity: ideal light reflection, no muddy undertones, and a stone I've personally approved. Prices vary with the 4Cs and the metal you choose, and your provincial sales tax applies on top.
I don't believe in vague "starting from" numbers or price breakdowns, because there are too many variables. Book a free consultation and you'll get a straight, itemised quote for the exact pear and setting you want.

Does a pear shaped diamond look bigger than a round?
Yes. A pear spreads its carat weight along a longer surface, so more faces up. A one carat pear can look close to a 1.2 to 1.3 carat round from above.
Which way should a pear ring point?
Traditionally the point faces toward the wearer, pointing up toward the fingernail. It makes the finger look longer and protects the tip. Most people wear it this way.
Are pear lab grown diamonds more affordable than mined pears?
Yes. With a lab grown pear you pay for the diamond, not a mined-diamond markup, so the same real, certified stone leaves more of your budget for size, clarity, and the setting. It's the same real diamond, just grown instead of mined.
Do pear diamonds have a bow-tie effect?
Most do, faintly. A slight bow tie is normal; a heavy dark one dulls sparkle. We hand-select each pear and reject any with a distracting bow tie.
